Basically, Poker is a game of cards played by a group of people around a circular or oval table. Each player is dealt a card facedown and one card faceup in rotation. Players may bluff to convince their opponents that they have a good hand. Similarly, they may check or fold to prevent their opponents from seeing their cards. The player who has the best hand wins the pot.
The first player has the obligation of making the first bet. This is usually a minimum ante. The player can raise the bet, but he is also obliged to match the previous bet. The second player can raise the bet, but if he does not match the previous bet, he can check. The third player can raise the bet, but unless he also matches the previous bet, he can fold.
The first betting round begins after the initial dealer is chosen by every player receiving a card from the shuffled deck. The player to the left of the big blind is the first to act. If there are no more raises, the next player can check or raise the bet. During the betting interval, all players except the first player can fold. When the betting period has ended, the cards are revealed and play moves to the next round. If there are two players with the same hand, ties are broken by the highest unmatched card. If there are more than two players with the same hand, ties may be broken by secondary pairs.
The betting interval ends when the last raise is made. The player who raised the bet must then bet at least the minimum amount in the second betting round. If he does not bet the minimum amount in the second betting round, the next player may raise the bet. After the second betting round, players may bet more than the previous bet, but the bet is limited to a set amount. The maximum bet in the third and final betting round is a big bet.
The player to the left of the big blind can check or raise the bet. If he does not check, he can stay in the hand. However, he has no further chance of winning the hand. In the final round, the player with the best hand wins the pot. The winner collects royalty units and earns points. In the event of a draw, the pot is divided equally between players.
